Position Summary The Heavy Equipment Operator works on various construction sites to operate one or several types of power construction equipment, such as excavators, motor graders, skid loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, tractors, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth.
Daily minor equipment maintenance/repairs may be required in addition to other duties.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in underground site utility construction.
Properly follows company and OSHA safety procedures.
Brings problems to the attention of the project Foreman.
Follows daily processes and procedures consistent with job training and/or specific job orientation.
Performs routine inspection and notifies management of needed preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
Refers defects or needed repairs to project Foreman.
Visually verifies the location of any existing underground utilities prior to excavation.
Is knowledgeable in trenching requirements and reviews these requirements with project Foreman, ensuring the proper protective equipment is located on the job site and that it is free from defects.
Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
Skills for success Good communication and ability to work with all levels of management and co-workers, external vendors, and other business associates.
Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
Must have good interpersonal skills Punctuality and dependability are required.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.
Must be flexible regarding work hours including evenings and weekends.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Union affiliation or willingness to take the necessary steps to join the union.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
